A Court of Thorns and Rose by Sarah J. Maas:
Review
The ACOTAR ( A Court of Thorns and Roses) series, is definitely not a new and undiscovered series. It is one of the most popular fantasy book series on Booktok and Bookstagram. Safe to say this book is part of the reason I have trust issues.
As someone who hadn't read a fantasy book willingly in years, I didn't have the highest of expectations for this book since it's referred to as one of the "heavy" fantasy series since there is a lot of word building. With that all in mind, I started reading it and absolutely fell in love with the world and its charcters.
Summary
Feyre killed a wolf not knowing that it was a faerie, also not knowing that this hunt would cost her. At home, another faerie beast awaits to demand justice for his faerie friend. When Feyre is taken to the magical land, she does not expect to be treated well from her captor. She especially doesn't expect for her captor to be one of the immortal faeries. After a while, chaos and havoc starts to hit the magical world of Fae and everyone's fate is in Feyre's hands. She must destroy this evil presence once and for all or suffer the consequences that comes with it.
The Plot
I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to keep up with the plot or world building of this book but it's safe to say that the plot is one very similar to the plot of Beauty and the Beast with the entire captor concept. Many characters were introduced in this book and I feel like many of them are really important to remember since they all have important roles in the other books. I loved how the plot was always somehow building even when you thought it was settling down BOOM something else is added to it which made the book insanely entertaining! All the parts of Feyre and Tamlin were so cute and I really liked the Found Family aspect of the book and plot and how even though Feyre felt like an outcast in her own family, she managed to build her own in this magical world with people who she was taught and brought up to hate.
The Characters
Tamlin
As someone who has read till the third book of this 5 book series, it's really sad to think about Tamlin in book one. Tamlin is so sweet and he portrays the hurt beast so well. It's really clear and visible how he just wants to protect his loved ones and friends. Other than that there's not much I can say without spoiling the next books.
Feyre
Feyre's character development was insane! The way she went from a fragile teen to a strong woman all with the help of Tamlin was just incredible. There were times where I found her to be a bit naïve but I feel like that was part of the character development. I really liked how the author added Art to her background and as a form of support.
I feel like something that you find all over social media when you search this book series up is: Rhysand. SPOILER ALERT!! We do meet him in this book but you do in fact need to keep reading the series to really see his character
Lucien
I feel like Lucien is one of those characters that annoy you in the beginning and one which you don't trust at all but end up loving. I also have the question on how Feyre managed not to fall in love with him but, oh well! He was such a great support to Feyre in this book!
